“I valued Cunninghame Graham like rubies. We’ll never see his like again.”~ Hugh MacDiarmid

Robert Bontine Cunninghame Graham (1852-1936), known as Don Roberto, was one of the most consequential figures of his era. He is best known as the co-founder, with Keir Hardie, of the Scottish Labour Party, forerunner of the modern Labour Party; later as co-founder of the National Party of Scotland and honorary founding president of the Scottish National Party. But in a long and remarkable life he was many other things besides: a horseman, adventurer and traveller; a radical politician; a fighter for social justice; the author of many books; a visionary and humanitarian.

This site offers an introduction to the man, his life and his work, in line with the aims of the Cunninghame Graham Society (see
here). It provides biographical and bibliographical information, along with links to external resources, and news of talks and events, for scholars, aficionados, and those who are entirely new to the man and his extraordinary life.

We welcome you and would invite you to consider becoming a
member of the Society for a modest annual subscription of £10.

For the sake of brevity we refer to him as 'RBCG' throughout this site.
